Story of Shaheed Udham Singh | शहीद उधम सिंह का जीवन परिचय
13 अप्रैल 1919 का वो खौफनाक दिन, जब कांग्रेस नेता सत्यपाल और सैफुद्दीन किचलू को अरेस्ट करने के विरोध में पंजाब के अमृतसर में हजारों की तादाद में लोग एक पार्क में जमा हुए…ये लोग शांति के साथ विरोध प्रदर्शन कर रहे थे…तभी अंग्रेज जनरल Reginald Dyer वहां पहुंचता है और अंग्रेज़ सैनिकों को निहत्थे मासूम लोगों पर फायरिंग का आदेश देता है…इसके बाद बंदूक की गोलियां के बीच पुरुषों, महिलाओं और बच्चों की चीखों से जलियावाला बाग़ गूंजने लगा।
अंग्रेज़ों की बंदूकें तब तक आग उगलतीं रहीं जबकि कि वहां मौजूद एक भी शख्स ज़िंदा रहा। जनरल डायर ने जलियांवाला बाग़ को श्मशान बना दिया। इस रक्तपात के दौरान एक 20 साल का नौजवान किसी तरह ज़िंदा बच गया, वो लाशों का अंबार देखकर फूट फूट कर रो रहा था…उसने जनरल डायर और गोली चलाने का आदेश देने वाले पंजाब के गवर्नर जनरल माइकल ओ डायर से इस हत्याकांड करने का बदला लेने की कसम खाई…ये शख्स और कोई नहीं बल्कि महान क्रांतिकारी सरदार उधम सिंह थे।

सरदार उधम सिंह का जन्म 26 दिसंबर 1899 को पंजाब के संगरूर के सुनाम गांव में हुआ था..उनके पिता सरदार तेहाल सिंह रेलवे में चौकीदार थे। उधम सिंह का बचपन का नाम शेर सिंह था। जब उधम सिंह 7 साल के थे तो उनकी माता और पिता दोनों ने दुनिया को अलविदा कह दिया। इसके बाद उन्हें अमृतसर के सेंट्रल खालसा अनाथालय भेज दिया गया। इसी अनाथालय में शेर सिंह को उधम सिंह नाम दिया गया। उधम शहीद भगत सिंह को अपना गुरु मानते थे। जब उधम सिंह बड़े हुए तो सभी धर्म के लोगों में एकता बनाने के लिए उन्होंने अपना नाम बदलकर राम मोहम्मद सिंह आजाद रख लिया।
उधम सिंह ने कैसे बदला लिया?
साल 1918 में उधम सिंह ने मैट्रिक की परीक्षा पास की और 1919 में उन्होंने अनाथालय छोड़ दिया और आज़ादी के आंदोलन में कूद पड़े। उधम सिंह के कानों में दिन रात जलियावाला बाग में शहीद हुए लोगों की चीखें गूंजती रहतीं थी। ऐसे में उन्होंने अपने साथियों के साथ चंदा इक्ट्ठा किया और अंग्रेज़ों से बदला लेने लंदन चले गए।
उधम सिंह ने जनरल डायर पर कितनी गोलियां चलाई?
लंदन पहुंचने पर पता चला कि जनरल Reginald Dyer की ब्रेन हैमरेज से मौत हो गई। अब उन्होंने दूसरे हत्यारे जनरल Michael O’Dwyer को मारने की योजना बनाई। 6 साल तक वो जनरल डायर को मारने का मौका तलाशते रहे। आखिरकार 13 मार्च 1940 उन्हें वो मौका मिल ही गया…13 तारीख को रॉ
यल सेंट्रल एशियन सोसायटी की लंदन के कॉक्सटन हॉल में बैठक थी। वहां जनरल Michael O’Dwyer को भी आना था।
उधम ने अपनी बन्दूक को एक मोटी सी किताब में छुपाया और पहुंच गए। वहां उन्होंने मौका पाते ही जनरल Dwyer पर फायरिंग की। दो गोलियां लगने से जनरल डायर वहीं ढेर हो गया। उधम सिंह गिरफ्तार कर लिए गए। लंदन की अदालत में उनके ऊपर जनरल डायर की हत्या का मुकदमा चला।
उधम सिंह को फांसी की सजा क्यों दी गई? शहीद उधम सिंह को फांसी कहां तथा किस देश में दी गई थी?
4 जून 1940 को उधम सिंह को जनरल Michael O’Dwyer की हत्या का दोषी तय किया गया। उन्हें 31 जुलाई 1940 को पेंटनविले जेल में फांसी दे दी गई और उधम सिंह सदा से लिए अमर हो गए।
शहीद उधम सिंह की अस्थियां भारत में कब आई?
हद तो तब हो गई जब जालिम अंग्रेजों ने उधम सिंह की अंतिम रस्मों को भी पूरा नहीं होने दिया। आज़ादी के बाद साल 1974 में ब्रिटेन ने उनके अवशेष भारत को सौंपे और भारत में विधिवत उनका अंतिम संस्कार हुआ। भारत का इतिहास अंग्रेजों के घर में घुस कर एक जालिम को उसके किए की सज़ा देने वाले सरदार उधम सिंह को हमेशा याद रखेगा। हम सरदार उधम सिंह को कोटि कोटि नमन करते हैं और उन्हें क्रांतिकारी सलाम पेश करते हैं।

Biography of Shaheed Udham Singh
13th April 1919 was that dreadful day when thousands of people gathered in a park in Amritsar, Punjab to protest against the arrest of Congress leaders Satyapal and Saifuddin Kichloo…these people were protesting peacefully…then British General Reginald Dyer reached there and ordered the British soldiers to fire on unarmed innocent people…after this, Jallianwala Bagh started echoing with the screams of men, women and children amidst the gunfire.
The guns of the British kept on spewing fire till not even a single person present there remained alive. General Dyer turned Jallianwala Bagh into a crematorium. During this bloodshed, a 20-year-old youth somehow survived, he was crying bitterly seeing the pile of dead bodies…he vowed to take revenge for this massacre from General Dyer and the Governor General of Punjab Michael O Dyer who ordered the firing…this person was none other than the great revolutionary Sardar Udham Singh. Sardar Udham Singh was born on 26 December 1899 in Sunam village of Sangrur, Punjab. His father Sardar Tehal Singh was a watchman in the railways. Udham Singh’s childhood name was Sher Singh. When Udham Singh was 7 years old, both his mother and father said goodbye to the world. After this, he was sent to the Central Khalsa Orphanage in Amritsar. In this orphanage, Sher Singh was named Udham Singh. Udham considered Shaheed Bhagat Singh as his guru. When Udham Singh grew up, he changed his name to Ram Mohammad Singh Azad to create unity among people of all religions.
How did Udham Singh take revenge?
In the year 1918, Udham Singh passed the matriculation examination and in 1919 he left the orphanage and jumped into the freedom movement. The screams of the people martyred in Jallianwala Bagh used to echo in Udham Singh’s ears day and night. In such a situation, he collected donations with his companions and went to London to take revenge from the British.
How many bullets did Udham Singh fire at General Dyer?
On reaching London, it was found that General Reginald Dyer died of brain hemorrhage. Now he planned to kill the other assassin, General Michael O’Dwyer. For 6 years he kept looking for an opportunity to kill General Dyer. Finally, on 13 March 1940, he got that opportunity… On the 13th, there was a meeting of the Royal Central Asian Society in London’s Caxton Hall. General Michael O’Dwyer was also to come there.
Udham hid his gun in a thick book and reached there. As soon as he got the chance, he fired at General Dwyer. General Dyer fell down on the spot after being hit by two bullets. Udham Singh was arrested. A case of General Dyer’s murder was tried against him in the London court.
Why was Udham Singh sentenced to death? Where and in which country was martyr Udham Singh hanged? On 4 June 1940, Udham Singh was convicted of the murder of General Michael O’Dwyer. He was hanged in Pentonville Jail on 31 July 1940 and Udham Singh became immortal forever.
When did the ashes of martyr Udham Singh come to India?
The limit was crossed when the cruel British did not even allow Udham Singh’s last rites to be completed. After independence, in 1974, Britain handed over his remains to India and his last rites were duly performed in India. The history of India will always remember Sardar Udham Singh, who entered the British home and punished a tyrant for his deeds. We bow down to Sardar Udham Singh and offer him a revolutionary salute.
